Velocipedes!
On Wednesday 7th June and the morning of Thursday 8th June 2017 the Velocipede Group held a rally on the Eden Valley Railway.

Hereunder are some photographs from the event, quite small in size due to storage constraints on the server. Larger versions of these images can be seen by clicking on the image (most of the full size images are about 1900-2000 pixels wide and can be accessed via the external website), and more can be seen at https://madannie.smugmug.com/Trains/Velocipedes-at-Warcop/n-nZpDt5/

All the velocipedes lined up at Warcop Station and looking small compared to the rolling stock behind. The Eden Valley Railway’s own velocipede, Fred, is at the front of the line.

Is this Cumbria or Surrey? A CEP and a Thumper!

Our intrepid photographer tramped off down the line to photograph the velocipedes as they passed through Wildboar Cutting. Whilst waiting she was watched by a pair of buzzards. Although they circled overhead and called out a lot they did not get too close, probably because she kept pointing a camera with a long lens at them!

Another two seater. This one caused problems later by failing (the chain kept coming off!) and having to be towed back to Warcop

For the rally we were allowed to travel about half a mile beyond the Eden Valley Railway’s current boundary, courtesy of Sustrans/Railway Paths Ltd. This took us to a point between Old Hall and Far Bank End farms, further progress being impossible due to a fence across the line. Fred is seen at the fence.

The Wickham turntable was taken and used to facilitate turning of the larger velocipedes, as seen in the next two images.

On the Sandford straight the errant velocipede is being coupled to Morticia, the first velocipede chosen for the towing having been found to be unsuitable

The participants assembled in front of Warcop Signal Box.. The first shot is by our intrepid photographer and some-time pedaller Caroline Mitchell, the second by Steve Mitchell (who also powered Fred on 7th June), allowing Caroline to get in shot.

Steve Mitchell also took some video of the event. This is the film put together from that footage. Note that it was a rather windy day and so there is a lot of wind noise on the film.
