Volunteering on the Eden Valley Railway

Can you spare a day or more per month? We are finding that the current volunteers are getting a bit stretched, having to do two or three jobs at once. We could do with more volunteers to help us out and spread the load. There are plenty of different tasks:

• Retail: when trains are running we have to man the ticket booth, the exhibition coach/shop and the Emporium as well as general meet and greet duties.

• Admin: very much a requirement these days. Experience with grant applications would be very useful.

• Rolling Stock: anyone with carpentry or welding skills would be welcomed with open arms. There is also plenty of work for anyone wanting to get involved with the maintenance of our shunters and crane.

• Permanent Way: not all the work is heavy such as sleeper replacement or ballast shovelling. There is fence repair, drain clearing and vegetation control as well.

• Train crew: drivers, guards, shunters and platform duties, although these will require you to be trained to the required standards.

So can you spare us some time: even if it only one Sunday a month. It is your railway: come and help us build it up.
